Scholarships

The future can get expensive...especially when higher education is involved. College comes with innumerable advantages, for a price. 
 
While college can be expensive, it does not have to be paid for completely out of pocket. Many local and national foundations offer grants and scholarships, as well as colleges/universities themselves. The counselor's office is the best place to look for any scholarship or grant information, but here is a jumping off point to use.
  • Community Foundation of Greater Flint - 64 scholarships awarded per year. CFGF
  • Pete Fusi - Awarded to a football player in financial need. Character Essay required.
  • Genesee Power Station Citizens Advisory Committee - Awarded to a student in financial need with a B average overall, B average in mathematics and science who has applied to at least one accredited college/university and plans to major in Engineering, Mathematics, or one of the Physical Sciences (astronomy, chemistry, geology, mineralogy, meteorology, physics).
  • Don Hugh Duford Memorial College Scholarship Fund - Awarded to a post-secondary education student with a minimum of 2 years winning a letter in band or choir, with a 3.5 GPA.
  • Wilsterman Foundation - Awarded to a student with great potential but who struggles with learning due to any extenuating circumstance (including but not limited to: late blooming, family situation). Non-GPA based, but extracurriculars and community service are heavily considered.
  • Lloyd F. Hutt Scholarship - Awarded to the writer of the best essay based upon a prompt of their choosing.
  • Flint Kiwani's Scholarship - Awarded to a senior demonstrating financial need and plans on attending a 4-year school in Michigan.
  • Harold "Hal" Scoville Scholarship - Awarded to a student who has completed the FAFSA and has held leadership roles. CTE needs to recommend the student. Essay required: What are your future plans and how has CTE helped you?
  • Genesee Opportunity (GO) Stipend - Awarded to a student that lives in Genesee county, graduated from a high school IN Genesee county, and plans on enrolling in training or a post-secondary educational institution.
  • Links Inc Scholarship Fund - Awarded to a Genesee county resident with a GPA of 2.5 or higher. Must include 2 letters of recommendation, transcript, and proof of acceptance to a college with the application.
  • Mott CC's Trustees' Leadership Fund - Awarded to ONE graduate from every high school in Genesee county that has a GPA of at least 3.5. Must include transcripts, 2 letters of recommendation, and partake in an interview upon applying.
